Is This A Moth?

Does anyone know what kind of insect this is?

I think it's a species of moth.

We moved into this house last June but I have been seeing these things most of the winter. It surprises me; I thought they are supposed to hibernate?

Can anyone identify it? I'd like to know so I can look up how to get rid of them.

One thing I can tell you is that it has a hard shell.

This one is deceased - on the end of my fly swatter.

Assalamu alaykum Saf!

I have no idea what it is. I didnt know that moths had hard shells. Moths make me crawl out of my skin. Here is link I found on that claims to have thousands of photos of moth species.

If I were you, I would take one, and put it in a ziploc bag or sealed cup and bring it to an exterminator; they could probably tell you what it is, and if it is a potential problem to have them in your house. Sometimes things like this are harmless, just a nuisance.

Good luck, let me know if you figure it out!

if it has a hard shell I am inclined to think it is not a moth... but other than that I don't know. Do you have a large university close to you? Here you can take an insect to OSU and the entomologists will identify it for you. I dunno...
