An excellent reminder! I took a course on washing the body of the deceased years ago. It's important that people the community are aware of how to do this correctly. This also brings to mind another issue of (wasiyya)Islamic Will. I have heard stories of converts/ reverts whose family buried them as christians and no one could stop them because no will!

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

Lovely blog, mash'Allah.

Jazaki'Allahu khair for the link!! I have been on a web mission looking for this. I had watched it a while ago.. and wanted a reminder of things.

As informative as the video is, trust me..it is much different when you actually have to shroud a body.

Salaams Sis:

I'm glad you can benefit from the link.

How do you mean, different when you actually do it. Are you speaking from an emotional standpoint?

I spoke to a sister who recently did it for the first time. She said it provoked a lot of anxiety for her. To make matters worse, the sister they washed was embalmed because the body was being returned for burial overseas (a law in the US). The family merely wanted the body washed and shrouded before putting it on the airplane.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

Yes.. I suppose from an emotional standpoint as well.

The whole experience can get overwhelming (depending on the circumstance I suppose). I can't explain it in words (sorry).. it is one of those things where even if you read (watch) everything about washing a body, etc. .. different things come up, and that's what I mean, when I said it's not (completely) like the video.

The sister you spoke to about her experience, is a perfect example of that.
