2,000-year-old gold earring found in Jerusalem



As a lover of jewelry - especially, gold, pearls, and emeralds, this find really struck at my heart (sigh!).

JERUSALEM – Israeli archaeologists have discovered a 2,000-year-old gold earring beneath a parking lot next to the walls of Jerusalem's old city, the Israel Antiquities Authority said Monday.

So you mean that Jews were already living in Israel when Arabs were still drinking wine and burying their daughters? Unbelievable!

It just goes to show the depth of Jewish history in the Land of Israel.

The article states that the earring may have belonged to someone "elite" Jewish or Arab?

But indeed, you are correct. Jews were everywhere in the Middle East at the time period you are referring to. There was a thriving community of Jews in Medina (now KSA) when the Prophet (saw) arrived there.

I wonder who "the girl with the pearl earring" was....it certainly makes your imagination go wild.

The earring is absolutely gorgeous, btw....I would buy it if I saw it in a store today. They sure did master the art of adornment back then.

I have a hard time believing it belonged to a jew though :) they found it there but the jews have just moved there!! :p
